On October 30, 2014, UWI Consulting Inc. successfully completed a strategic review of University of Guyana Human Resources (academic and non- academic staff. UWIC was contracted for the consultancy to conduct a management study of human resources at the University of Guyana (UG) as a component of the University’s Science and Technology Project. The Government of Guyana (GOG) received support from the World Bank (WB) through the Ministry of Education to fund the University of Guyana Science and Technology Support (UG STS) Project.
Our services were engaged to review the UG’s strategic plan and all past studies relating to Human Resources; provide recommendations on likely shifts in policy directions, functions, programmes and activities at UG and areas for strengthening. The strategic review sought to determine the gaps between the current staff establishment (teaching and non-teaching) and the projected staffing needs, relative to the goals and objectives of the UG’s Strategic Plan (2009-2012). The study also reviewed and analysed various issues such as the allocation of UG Personnel by faculty, student enrolment and compared these ratios with those of selected universities in the Caribbean, UK and Canada.
Somerecommendations have been provided to help with the courses of actions to be undertaken, and the university will need to decide which activities to adopt/approve. Thereafter the University will prioritize the actions it will take as the University of Guyana (UG) to move forward in its mission of providing quality higher education.
